Leadership Capability Framework 

The Client

Originally founded in 1957 this financial institution provides banking and financial services to Australians across the nation. Their purpose is to create mutual prosperity in the form of positive economic, social, environmental and cultural impact. They are a values-based financial institution and employ approximately 500 people based across metropolitan and rural Melbourne and Victoria. 

The Opportunity

  • CLA worked in partnership with our client to define the leadership capabilities that underpin leadership success across three levels in the organisation. 
  • The aim of this work was to also ensure that these capabilities reflected the current and emerging needs and priorities of the organisation.

 

Methodology

Consulting with the organisation’s CEO, Chief People Officer, Learning and Development Manager and other key stakeholders, CLA deployed a three-phase methodology to define, design and deliver a customised Leadership Capability Framework that would be easily embedded within the organisation and create a succinct and common leadership language. We: 

  • Reviewed key internal and external inputs regarded as relevant to constructing the capability framework with a specific focus on leadership requirements in values-based banks 
  • Developed and stress-tested the framework through rigorous stakeholder consultation
  • Provided recommendations for implementation of the framework across recruitment, talent management, learning and leadership development 
  • CLA delivered a Leadership Capability Framework based on six core capabilities across three proficiency levels. The framework was fully customised in terms of design and structure to suit the client’s needs. 

The Outcome​

We partnered with our client to implement the framework through: 

  • Mapping leadership capabilities to psychometric tools for recruitment
  • Developing a customised multi-rater tool to support leadership development
  • Socialising the framework and building familiarity with it through Coaching Circles that 65 leaders have participated in over two years.
